Civil Disobedience Blend 33
Blended Barrel-Aged Farmstead® Ale
Our Civil Disobedience collection provides a perpetual opportunity whereby we might thoughtfully assemble threads and strands in an optimistic endeavor to weave a graceful tapestry, one where the sum is hopefully more significant than its parts. Within each blend, we project out and envision a harmonized result over time—then we pause. In some cases, it can be three or four years; others emerge in just six or eight months; and some fail to achieve at all, as is the nature of these efforts.
Blend 33 has undoubtedly taken its leisurely path. In February of 2017, the oldest component of this blend began as Sankt Hans aging in wine barrels. Joining a portion of that beer was a panoply of intriguing threads: Florence that began its wine barrel aging in September of 2017; single wine barrels of Vera Mae, Nordic Saison, and Brother Soigné, all from autumn of 2017; and wine barrels of Anna and Arthur from early winter 2017. Each constituent was chosen to complement and strengthen the final vision.
Blended and bottled in June of 2018, the maturation of this blend has required nearly four years in the bottle, and we anticipate that it will continue to evolve and reach its peak in 3 to 4 years while presenting exceptionally well for the next 7 to 8 years. Like the blends numbered 30 and 31 before it, this recalls Civil Disobedience 10, yet more contemplative and complex.
