Taproom Manager

We seek an experienced individual to lead our hospitality operations and provide interdepartmental interfacing as a manager. The Taproom Manager leads all of Hill Farmstead’s hospitality operations and provides general managerial interfacing between departments. The ideal candidate should have previous managerial experience in retail and/or restaurant operations, have strong communication skills, and possess a solid ability to delegate while collaborating across a wide range of projects.  This position is responsible for furthering Hill Farmstead’s Brand Preservation, Identity, and Stewardship.

Mission and Primary Focus:

  • Structure, organize, and optimize customer-facing operations while providing exceptional oversight, management, and support for all staff.
  • Lead taproom floor service Tuesday-Saturday, providing the best possible experience for staff and guests. Facilitate additional retail days during summer months (Sunday/Monday/Tuesday)
  • Translate overall company strategy into individual/departmental goals and ensure that relevant key metrics are communicated to staff
  • Ensure daily adherence to retail checklists, overseeing inventory, cleaning and equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Determine and update taproom menu daily, with descriptions and pricing
  • Develop, implement and constantly improve taproom policies and procedures
  • Collaborate on the organization and operation of special events at the brewery
  • Provide motivation and performance coaching, select and train new staff, facilitate scheduling
  • Identify and provide a foundation for continuing hospitality excellence.
  • Establish and guide a positive and fulfilling workplace while ensuring compliance and supportive accountability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day business operations while establishing rhythmic functioning and a high level of execution.
  • Manage the entire retail team, including schedules/time management, personnel needs, staffing concerns, and encouraging and supporting staff to perform at the highest standards.
  • Work alongside staff in the retail space during operating hours.
  • Conduct daily and weekly staff meetings with team members.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide additional coaching and support as needed.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction in person (face-to-face) and virtually via responses to customer issues, suggestions, and feedback. This will include monitoring and, as needed, responding to the [email protected] email account.
  • Report critical information and data swiftly and concisely to appropriate team members.
  • Review processes to ensure efficiencies are improved and procedures are streamlined.
  • Recognize and maintain necessary compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Assist in employee recruitment, training, performance evaluation, promotion, and termination.
  • Manage onboarding and exit interviews for employees.
  • Ensure that employees observe company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in administrative, logistical, human resources, and accounting services to support company operations.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.

Part-Time, Seasonal Retail Position – 2024

We have an immediate opening in our Taproom and Bottle Shop for a seasonal Part-Time Retail position. We're looking for a personable, optimistic, motivated, goal-oriented, and attentive individual to join our inclusive and supportive Retail team for the upcoming season.

Our retail operation is currently open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily shifts may range from 8 to 10 hours, and hours may fluctuate based on seasonality.

An interest in and a basic knowledge of beer are important for this position. Knowledge about our beer specifically is a plus. A growth mindset and a desire to learn more about beer are also pluses, as we provide extensive training for our entire staff.

Job duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: providing excellent customer service and actively engaging with our guests; bussing glassware; monitoring grounds and guest activities; facilitating draft beer service; filling growlers; Bottle Shop order fulfillment; customer education; operating the point of sale (we use Toast); and daily cleaning duties.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a customer service-oriented work environment.
    • Basic knowledge of and interest in beer.
    • Positive job references from at least one previous place of employment.
    • 21+ years of age.
    • Ability to engage (listen and contribute) in daily Team meetings.
    • Ability to carry cases of bottles and cans (up to 40 pounds).
    • Ability to stand for 8 to10 hours.
    • Ability to operate or quickly learn Point-of-Sale system (Toast).
    • Ability to adhere to routine processes while suggesting innovation or improvement methods.
    • Possesses excellent Written Communication Skills
    • Ability to communicate using a company-wide communication application (Twist)
    • Basic Computer Skills; proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
    • Possesses basic math skills
    • DLC 1st and/or 2nd Class Certifications ideal, but we are able to provide as needed
