Lead Brewer / Production Manager

Hill Farmstead Brewery is seeking a talented Brewer, ready to dive into a collaborative leadership opportunity in Greensboro, Vermont. This position includes managing our production team, vigilantly ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our facility, and operating our brewhouse, while also demanding deep knowledge and teamwork across all areas of our business.  We require an excellent palate for tasting and quality control, technical prowess, and the ability to keep records, clearly communicate instructions, implement checklists, set schedules, supervise and train production staff, and guide an efficient, positive team. You will work closely with our owner and other company leaders, as well as the hospitality team, to implement the company’s vision, values, and dedication to producing superlative beverages.

This management position is responsible for overseeing all functions and activities related to beer production while providing guidance and education for the brewing team. Responsibilities, outlined in more detail below, include such things as identifying equipment fixes or upgrades and continually honing processes to reduce errors and improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Ownership and the brewery director will provide regular development assignments and inflection inquiries.  The ideal candidate must be excited to read books on management and will demonstrate an unyielding aspiration to transform.  With the employee’s assistance in finding the best fit, the Company will hire a third-party Executive Leadership Coach to provide recurring coaching sessions to help the employee grow to their full potential.

Salary will be reflective of alignment with ideal qualifications and will allow room for growth, according to the rate of application and acceleration into the integration of leadership role.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Degree in brewing/science/technology (or working toward) or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of commercial experience across all aspects of the brewing process including chemistry and biology, yeast management and propagation, packaging, bottle conditioning, and quality control
  • Familiar with Braukon (or similar brewhouse) and automation technology
  • Highly communicative, socially graceful, proven leader with strong skills to supervise and motivate production team
  • Familiar with our beers, aligned with our ethos, and motivated to adapt and grow with our business
  • Within a comfortable commute or happy to relocate and join our small rural community

Hospitality Director

Hill Farmstead Brewery is on a quest for a skilled kindred spirit to take over as Hospitality Director on our beautiful Greensboro, Vermont campus! As the welcoming face of our company, you will be entrusted with sharing our innovations, inspirations, and sense of place with visitors, creating a wonderful experience for all at Hill Farmstead.

You will promote our ideals of minimal, mindful, and qualitative consumption while embracing the ways our brewery can enrich our community, bringing people into presence with each other and with Nature. You must be an engaging extrovert, motivated, joyful, and thriving in teamwork, and a captain of the floor during taproom service. This leadership position includes supervising and training, ordering equipment and supplies, tending to vendor relationships, and organizing special events, all while guiding an efficient, positive team and ensuring an exceptional guest environment. You will work closely with our owner and implement the company’s vision, communicating the work of the entire brewery to the public, with knowledge and collaboration across all areas of the business. Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead taproom floor service Tuesday-Saturday, providing the best possible experience for staff and guests
  • Work with owner, management, and co-workers to ensure that the core values, policies, and goals of the company are always in practice
  • Participate in daily staff meditation and lead team huddles and weekly meetings
  • Provide motivation and performance coaching, select and train new staff, facilitate scheduling
  • Maintain the highest quality standards, including consistency and presentation of product, environment, atmosphere, etc.
  • Correspond with customers and staff over email
  • Ensure daily adherence to retail checklists, overseeing inventory, cleaning and equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Determine and update taproom menu daily, descriptions and pricing
  • Develop, implement and constantly improve taproom policies and procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of sales trends in the taproom, reporting sales and inventory
  • Maintain food vendor relationships, ordering supplies and coordinating food trucks and pop-ups
  • Collaborate on the organization and operation of special events at the brewery

Ideal Qualifications Include:

  • Excellent track record, with at least 4 years of team management, leadership, and customer service experience in a hospitality setting.
  • College degree, or an otherwise demonstrated thirst for knowledge and excellence.
  • Knowledge of craft beer and/or fine wine
  • Advanced verbal, written, and public speaking skills
  • An evolving knowledge and familiarity with Google Suite, POS systems, and mobile communication applications.

Front of House Team Member

Hill Farmstead is seeking a full-time server to join the team at our beautiful Greensboro, Vermont brewery!

You will welcome and engage with visitors, sharing our innovations, inspirations, and sense of place to ensure a wonderful experience for all guests. A true extrovert, you must be motivated, joyful, and thriving in teamwork! This position involves retail service in the taproom and bottle shop as well as special events, pouring draft beer and bottles, operating point-of-sale systems, and adhering to daily maintenance checklists.

You will demonstrate strong craft beer knowledge, participating in an efficient, positive team and ensuring an exceptional guest environment. You will promote our ideals of minimal, mindful, and qualitative consumption while contributing to our quest to enrich our community and bring people into presence with each other and with Nature.

Starting compensation varies, based upon ability to meet or exceed qualifications. Two weeks paid vacation, additional prorated personal time off, paid holidays, overtime, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes (and is not limited to) health insurance and retirement savings. 

Ideal Qualifications include:

  • At least 21 years of age, with a high school diploma or GED
  • 2+ Years Experience working in hospitality 
  • Knowledge of craft beer and familiarity with a variety of styles

Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establishing a high level of team rapport with existing and new team members
  • Presence in daily meditation and vocal engagement in huddle discussions 
  • Properly pouring draft and bottled beer, selecting proper glassware, and using sensory description to enhance the guest experience
  • Gaining and maintaining deep knowledge of our beers 
  • Carefully fulfilling orders and operating POS in the Bottle Shop and Taproom
  • Bussing and washing glassware, restocking bottles and cans, and assisting wherever needed during service
  • Contributing to opening and closing checklists for retail service
  • Cleaning and maintaining all service areas
  • Serving cheese plates and other food offerings in winter
  • Working Tuesday-Saturday, 9 am-6 pm, and rotationally until 7 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with occasional flexibility
