IPA Brewed with HBC 586 and Phantasm
Over the course of the last decade, many of our favorite hop varieties were once unnamed entries in an experimental hop breeding project. Excursions is a compilation of India Pale Ales and Pale Ales that explores new hop varieties, flavor profiles, and combinations within that context. This entry features the experimental hop HBC 586 and Phantasm Thiol Powder. Developed by the Hop Breeding Co. (a joint venture between John I. Haas and Yakima Chief Ranches), HBC 586 is perhaps our favorite varietal in the last decade. Phantasm is made from Marlborough New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc grape skins; rich in Thiol precursors, it enhances and bolsters strong tropical fruit aromas during the fermentation process.
