Flora: Cherry

Farmsteadยฎ Wheat Ale Aged in Oak Barrels with Cherries

Flora is the wine barrel-aged version of Florence (1915-1967), Edward’s sister, as well as the name of our wheat Farmsteadยฎ ale. Each blend of her namesake beer rests in oak for an undetermined periodโ€”from many months to several years -and embodies our progressive vision for Hill Farmstead, a pursuit guided by natural intuition, evolving experience, and optimistic forecast. On occasion, we select a portion of Flora and age it on a blend of local cherry varieties, as a means of highlighting the sympathetic natures of beer in barrel and fruit in season

Blend/Packaging

2014
A single barrel of Flora was selected and aged on fresh, Vermont-grown Montmorency cherries. 500ml
2015
Only a few barrels were selected and then further aged on a blend of fresh, hand picked Montmorency cherries. 375ml
2018
We selected a puncheon and several wine barrels of Flora and aged it on a blend of Balaton and Montmorency cherries from the 2018 harvest year, all grown at Burtt's Orchard in Cabot, Vt. 375ml
2021
On occasion, we select a portion of Flora and age it on a blend of local fruit; this one features a selection of cherries from Burttโ€™s Orchard in Cabot that includes Balaton; Juliet; North Star; Carmine Jewel; and Scandanavian. Following an extended and carefully monitored bottle conditioning period, this expression delightfully highlights the sympathetic natures of beer in barrel and fruit in season.
