Leaves of Grass: Hops Not Hate
Farmstead® Ale Aged in Wine Barrels
In the spring of 2017, our Danish friend and Shaun’s former Nørrebro Bryghus colleague, Søren Parker Wagner, asked if we might be willing to participate in Hops Not Hate, his conceptual model for pairing charity and business principles within the framework of beer. The notion: envision and craft a beer whereby each participant in the supply chain (brewer, distributor, bar, bottle shop) commits to donate at least 50% of their net profits to two charities—one global and one local.
So, Søren traveled to Vermont to brew a beer with us for Hops Not Hate, a Farmstead® ale brewed with pale malt, malted wheat, and organic corn; hopped with Hallertau Blanc, Wai-iti, and Amarillo®; and aged in wine barrels for nearly six months. Following over two years of bottle conditioning, we now release the beer for your consideration and sharing.
100% of the money from the sale of this bottle will benefit Child Haven International (Kathmandu, Nepal) and Craftsbury Saplings (Craftsbury, Vt). In the spirit of the project, kegs of this beer will also be sold on to Søren (with all funds added to the donation total), so that the beer can be shared in Copenhagen.
