Hints of spring around the Northeast Kingdom have us looking ahead to April showers and eventual May flowers. Since the evenings still carry a bit of a chill, the arrival of a novel expression of our Barleywine-style ale with an extra layer of Vermont connection seems appropriate and fortuitous. This coming week, we’ll also have freshly packaged Foster (IPA) and Double (DIPA) cans, and the return of both Poetica 2 and Poetica 3 for growlers and to enjoy onsite.

Brewed in February 2019 and rested for over 18 months in selected Bourbon barrels, the blend was then moved into Whiskey barrels from WhistlePig Whiskey in Shoreham, Vt., for an additional 16 months. Making use of these freshly emptied barrels sourced so near to us is an excellent opportunity to blend additional barreled complexity with local ties.

This has been packaged nearly still, with little carbonation, so as to allow full expression of the barrel characteristics. After three years of considered shepherding, his namesake barleywine-style ale has achieved unique harmony, refinement, and complexity. 

We’ll also offer this by the glass onsite in the coming two weeks so that guests may enjoy it in situ.

Aaron A. Hill (1785-1869) operated the original tavern in North Greensboro, upon whose original sign the Hill Farmstead Brewery logo is based. Guests will also find another interpretation of this beer, aged in Cognac barrels, available for purchase in the retail shop, which offers an opportunity to experience two distinctive presentations.
