Retail Update for 30 September 2023
Samuel • Self-Reliance: Motueka™ • Nelson Pale Ale • Foster • Abner • George • Mary
Foliage is slowly but surely emerging across the hills, a bit delayed this year, but arriving nonetheless. For the week ahead, we will offer a substantial replenishment of both our can coolers and bottle selection. Beginning with a new emergence of Samuel and the return of Self-Reliance: Motueka™, we’ll also welcome back five canned offerings. Also, Caja Madera makes its long-awaited return for the entirety of the coming week as our food vendor!
Samuel
On occasion, we craft a base of buckwheat, spelt, and Vermont wildflower honey, which we then move to wine barrels with the optimistic expectancy that Edward’s intrepid great-uncle’s namesake beer might emerge at some indeterminate time. After an undefined period of rest and evaluation, we assemble a collection of barrels whose nature echoes what we perceive to be Samuel’s voice and set down the curation for conditioning in bottle. Following more than a year and a half of bottle conditioning, we present another instance of this beer, worthy of his name and inspiring memory.
Inspired and informed by two of our favorite Farmstead® ales—Le Sarrasin and Vera Mae—Samuel aspires to harmonize the essential expression of each into a perpetually novel and ever-evolving representation. Similar to previous instances, this beer can continue to bottle condition gracefully for the next 5 (or more) years while continuing to unveil new levels of aromatic and textural complexity.
Note: There is a two (2) bottle limit per person total for the duration of this release. This will not be available in our online shop for ordering/reserving ahead of time. This will be available in our bottle shop at opening on Wednesday for regular purchase.
We will also release one of the staff favorites in our Self-Reliance series of Farmstead® single-hop India pale ales: Self-Reliance: Motueka™. Aged four months in our oak puncheons, this was brewed with hand-selected Motueka™ hops grown by Freestyle Farm—our agricultural partner in Upper Moutere, New Zealand.
