Holger Danske • Harlan • Double Citra

First brewed in collaboration with our great friend Anders Kissmeyer in 2010, we offer this robust, malty, smoked brown ale for the first time in cans. In the spirit of that first brewday, and featuring malts hand-smoked on-site, this will be available in cans and growlers, as well as by the glass in our taproom.

Holger Danske, or “Holger the Dane,” began in the medieval French epic as Ogier le Danois, a legendary warrior in the world of Charlemagne. Over centuries, Danish folklore claimed him as its own, transforming the French knight into a great Danish hero and king, destined to protect the country in its darkest hour. Legend holds that Holger sleeps deep beneath Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, the castle immortalized as Elsinore in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, waiting in silence until Denmark truly needs him, when he will awaken and rise again. Hans Christian Andersen gave the legend new life in his 1845 fairy tale Holger Danske, helping secure Holger’s place in the Danish imagination.

Additional taproom selections for the coming week will include glass pours of Samuel (Vintage 2022) and 375ml bottles of Flora: Pear (Vintage 2018).

Cans for the Week:

• Harlan – Vermont IPA copiously dry-hopped with Columbus, Simcoe®, Chinook, and a hint of Nelson Sauvin® hops.
• Double Citra – Double IPA brewed exclusively with Citra® hops from Washington state’s Yakima Valley.
